A principle goal of Integrity/Greater Hartford is to educate
the members of our Episcopal Church on the importance of embracing LGBT
members as full members of the church. Specifically this includes allowing them
to have their loving relationships blessed by the Church and by removing
all barriers to their becoming Priests and Bishops.
Over
the past 30+ years our Church has engaged in ongoing dialog on the issue
of whether scripture permits the full inclusion LGBT members in the
carrying out of it's sacred rites and ceremonies. During this time, they
have also pondered the question of whether women were qualified
or suitable, despite contradictory scripture, to serve as Priests or
Bishops. Experience has proven that, contrary to the accepted
'Tradition', women are fully qualified, capable and suitable as Priests
and Bishops. While the recent election of Katharine Jefferts Schori as our
Presiding Bishop would seem to have settled the issue, there are still
members of the church who will not accept the appropriateness of her being
our Presiding Bishop.
Integrity/Greater
Hartford hopes to engage all members of the Episcopal Church in a dialog
on the importance of realizing the value, importance and right of LGBT
individual's serving Christ fully, rather than focusing on
matters of judgment, which scripture tells us, is best left to God.
Ultimately,
we hope to realize the ideals of Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori as she reflected
on the Church's Mission during a meeting of the House of Bishops in New
Orleans October of 2007 when she said reaffirmed 'There will be no outcasts in this
Church'.
Mindful
of our Bishops affirmation one of our principle goals is to provide the
assurance to individuals that our home parish, Trinity Episcopal Church of
Hartford welcomes you regardless of
where you are in your journey in life and without regard to your sexual
orientation.
